According to EA’s most recent surveys, the global primary aluminium demand has increased in 2015 by 4% over the previous year thus exceeding 56 million tons while the global production is equal to 57,650 million tons. Even more positive is the outlook for 2016, with an expected production exceeding 61 million tons and a demand at 59 million tons: a yearly increase of more than 6%. The primary aluminium demand in Europe in 2015 is slower and stands at 1.3%, backed in particular by automotive applications; 2016 is expected to bring an improvement for the Old Continent, too with an increase exceeding 2.5%.
As for semifinished products, Europe is weak in the extrusion division, which finds it difficult to recover also due to the ongoing crisis in the building market. According to EA, the European section bar production capacity has in fact dropped from 5.1 million tons in 2008 to 4.2 million tons in 2014.
