Once again, the aluminium industry meets for the new edition of METEF on the 9th to 11th June at BolognaFiere and scheduled to run at the same time as MECSPE

There are several special initiatives planned dedicated to the different sectors of industrial application of aluminium, always with an eye on its beneficial use in the circular economy and on the future of the new generations.

Milan, May 12, 2022 – Businesses in the aluminium supply chain are set to meet at the new edition of METEF, the international expo for the aluminium, ferrous and non-ferrous foundry, die-casting, processing, finishing and end-use industries, which will be held at BolognaFiere from June 9th to 11th, 2022, and scheduled to run at the same time as MECSPE; the most important event dedicated to innovations in the manufacturing industry.

This new edition, organized by Senaf, will take place in two pavilions against a highly professional backdrop, focused on business development. Given all the challenges facing many companies at the moment, including high energy prices, shortages of raw materials and rising industry producer prices (skyrocketing to +4 % on a monthly basis, source: Istat), it seems more important than ever for companies in the industry to seek commonly-agreed internationally focused-solutions.

A must-attend event for those involved in the aluminium and special metals industrial supply chain, which, thanks in part to the collaboration with leading national and international industry associations, the focus will be on the development of the metallurgical industry through sustainable innovation.

“For 25 years METEF has been bringing together the entire Italian supply chain of the aluminium, foundry and innovative metals industry with the aim of creating new networking opportunities at the Italian and international level,” says Mario Conserva, president of METEF. “Companies, particularly at this historical moment in time need guidance to help them predict future market trends, focus on sustainability, as well as help with solutions in line with the industry’s transformations. This is an industry that is becoming increasingly global and therefore needs greater vision not only from a production perspective, but also strategically on end applications. And that is the reason we are returning in 2022 with a completely revamped edition, which will appeal greatly to foreign buyers and includes a programme of conferences and special initiatives tailored to the most pressing and current needs of industry players. As well as being able to count on the significant presence of entrepreneurs from the manufacturing industry taking part in the exhibition thanks to MECSPE.”

A veritable forum to encourage the meeting of professionals in the field. This is what METEF 2022 will look like, thanks in part to a significant program of conferences, events and special initiatives. The METEF Innovation Award an international initiative which has grown in strength over a decade, will make its comeback, and aims to reward the most innovative company-nominated case histories for innovation in plants, technologies, products and applications in aluminium and its alloys. An expert jury will award the prize on the first day of the exhibition, evaluating entries based on their level of originality and the competitive advantages they can offer, prioritizing aspects of energy-savings, eco-sustainability and resource conservation. A special prize will also be awarded to overall company system de-carbonization projects.

But the opportunities for exploration of the industry at METEF 2022 do not end there. In particular, all the issues related to the reuse of the “metal of the future” within the circular economy as well as energy efficiencies will be discussed during the Green Aluminium Conference, which after the Brescia event, comes to Bologna on June 9th as part of the METEF exhibition. Expert testimonials will illustrate the main qualities and uses of environmentally-sustainable aluminium, both primary and secondary production as well as exploring the decisive role this metal will play in Italian and global de-carbonization.

June 10th will see three events in the Metef conference area. It will begin with the historic event dedicated to the extrusion sector, the aluminium Extrusion Forum ,in which, in addition to illustrating the framework of the extrusion market in Italy in the global context, it will address the times on new alloys and technological developments in the sector.

This will be followed by a presentation of the history and activities of the Aluminium for Future Generations program, a unique case in the landscape of institutional relations and strategic communication in which companies in the sector as well as Centroal have been involved in for more than two decades  and which has contributed profoundly and incisively to the improvement of the general and institutional perception of aluminium and its applications, making Italy a model in Europe for the development of this kind of activity.

Finally, a look at end uses, where the automotive sector is of primary importance for aluminium and its alloys, and that is why, on Thursday afternoon, the prospects for the development of the light metal in the car industry will be discussed thanks in part to the talk by Dr. De Caro of the Stellantis Group.

On June 11, all eyes will be on the aluminium casting foundry sector with an open discussion among Italian players in the sector from industry, academia and institutions participating in the Light Alloy Castings Foundry Conference. Of particular interest will be the talk by Dr. Vavassori, Chief Public Affairs & Institutional Relations Officer of Brembo entitled “Aluminium and Automotive: heavy choices for light metal.”

Then, among the main novelties of 2022 is the first edition of the Premio Pressocolata Italia, jointly promoted for the first time by the AIM, Amafond and Assofond Associations, to promote highly innovative and sustainable die-cast castings.

Additional content regarding the surface treatment industry will be covered in the Villaggio Aital, a space curated by Aital, the Italian Aluminium Surface Treatments Association, with a timely program of events and initiatives. Other topics concerning the foundry industry will be covered in the Regional Innovation Network Area Sinfonet in which some partner companies will take part. Finally, Amafond, the Italian Foundry Suppliers Association, will be present at METEF represented by several of its member companies and who have always supported and sustained the event.

About METEF

METEF, the international expo for aluminium, metal foundry and innovative materials technologies, first launched in Italy in 1997 by Alfin-Edimet, is now part of the Veronafiere and BolognaFiere joint venture portfolio and stands out as the flagship event of the international metallurgical segment, with its modernized concept, structure and location. METEF, for which Senaf has been appointed as the organizer, will be held concurrently with MECSPE, a landmark event for the manufacturing industry in Italy. The organizational and structural innovations of the new METEF exhibition aim to promote, in the global market, a sector of extraordinary social and economic importance such as metallurgy and advanced light metal manufacturing; a segment undergoing significant development and which is already valued in our country, with a turnover across entire supply chain, at €40 bn.
